What is Drayage/ Material Handling?
Material handling commonly referred to as drayage, is the cost of moving your shipments from the truck to the warehouse or show floor. It is a fee from the General Service Contractor, NOT the truck driver – therefore drayage/ material is a different change in addition to the shipping charges.
How is Material Handling Calculated?
The rate you’re charged for material handling is based on different factors:
What is the difference between the Advanced Warehouse and Show Site Delivery?
The advanced warehouse is an option for exhibitors to deliver their trade show booth and materials during the weeks leading up to an event. The show decorator accepts and stores freight at an offsite location, known as the advanced warehouse, up to 30 days prior to the start of the show.
Shipping direct to show site is an option in which exhibitors must deliver their freight to show venue during the dates and times listed in the show kit. Move-in occurs in a short window right before the official show dates.
Please note : The Expo Group Warehouse does not accept uncrated freight (loose, pad-wrapped material and/or un-skidded machinery), COD shipments, hazardous materials, freight requiring refrigerated or frozen storage, a single piece of freight weighing more than 5,000 pounds or a single piece of freight beyond the dimensions of 108″ H x 93″ W. Warehouse materials are accepted at the warehouse Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00am – 3:30pm. Certified weight tickets must accompany all shipments
What is a Common Carrier?
A Common Carrier is a transportation company moving exhibit freight. For multiple exhibit houses using the same carrier, the common carrier usually accepts only crated materials or wrapped skids and consolidates the properties of several customers into one shipment bound for the same destination. This way of shipping becomes more affordable for smaller total piece counts being shipped.
What is Special Handling?
Special Handling: Material delivered by the carrier in such a manner that it requires additional handling, such as ground unloading, stacked and constricted space unloading, designated piece unloading, loads mixed with pad-wrapped material, loads failing to maintain shipping integrity, carpet and/or pad-only shipments, and shipments that require additional time, equipment or labor to unload. Federal Express and UPS are included in this category due to their delivery procedures.
If I have my own dolly or hand truck, can I use them?
No. The Union has jurisdiction on the operation of all material handling equipment, including dollies and hand trucks.
What can I carry in or out of the facility by myself?
Only what you can carry by yourself, one person with no equipment (no dolly or handcart).
What is a Privately Owned Vehicle (POV)?
A POV is a vehicle driven to the convention center by the sponsor and offloaded for a small fee by the labor on the dock. Vehicles considered POVs are: cars, SUVs, pick up trucks, mini vans. Vehicles that are NOT considered POVs are: full-sized vans, box trucks, trailers.
